The brief called for maximization of gross floor area whilst keeping the budget modest. We proposed to retain the existing church and build a new annex that would envelope the old, creating an entirely new façade.
We employed the concept of a ‘stole’ worn by pastors as inspiration for the design of the concrete cross ‘draped’ over the building. The sanctuary interior is unique in the employment of bricks as wall cladding, with areas of open gaps that allow the natural daylight to filter into the sanctuary.
